Twelve Confirmed in 2016 Winterbottom Stakes Field

November 22nd, 2016

Twelve sprinters have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s 2016 Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot Racecourse; offering punters exceptional value from a betting perspective and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.

Terravista appears to have returned to racing in typically-slick form this time and has been confirmed to line up in the 2016 Winterbottom Stakes field, as his second campaign point-of-call on Saturday.

A Group 1 winner having taken out the 2014 edition of the Darley Classic, Terravista resumed this year for an agonizingly-close second in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m).

Failing to fire in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) before ending his autumn season a credible sixth in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m), the Captain Rio gelding savaged the line for second in the Listed Mumm Stakes (1000m) first-up on November 3rd

Takedown carries career-best form into the Winterbottom Stakes and should prove extremely tough to beat if he draws a favourable barrier.

Resuming this time for consecutive wins in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) and Group 2 Premiere Stakes (2000m), Takedown ran a close second to Voodoo Lad in the Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m) before a luckless run for fifth in the Group 3 L’Oreal Paris Stakes (1400m) last time out on November 3rd.

The Lindsay Park operation have confirmed that they will launch a two-pronged attack in the feature sprint, after including both Keen Array and Sheidel in the 2016 Winterbottom Stakes field.

Keen Array has posted six wins and a further four minors through sixteen career starts so far and should lay a great account for himself under the conditions of the Winterbottom Stakes.

Running second in the Listed Fruit Supply Stakes (1200m) first-up on September 3rd, the Bel Esprit gelding won each of the Listed Testa Rossa Stakes (1200m) and Listed Caulfield Village Stakes (1200m) before running fourth in the Group 2 Salinger Stakes (1200m) on Derby Day.

Having placed seventh in the Darley Classic last time out, Keen Array will relish a return to a race with a turn, when he lines up for the Winterbottom Stakes.

A former Perth galloper, Sheidel’s proven form at Ascot is sure to count for plenty when she takes her place in the 2016 Winterbottom Stakes field.

Sheidel maintained well to the line for fourth in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) first-up on September 3rd, before charging home to finish second to Hellbent in the Handicap (1100m) three weeks later.

Posting consecutive race wins in the Group 3 Cape Grim Beef Steaks (1200m) and Group 3 Sensis Stakes (1100m), Sheidel place fifth in the Darley Classic last time out.
