A talented field of 13 sprinters has been confirmed for Saturday’s Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Perth Ascot Racecourse, offering punters exceptional value from a betting point of view and several opportunities to place a winning wager.
Having returned to racing in exceptional form this time in, Angelic Light ($3) has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite in 2014 Winterbottom Stakes betting markets ahead of market mover Moment Of Change ($4.20), Sidestep ($7) and Magnifisio $8.50 with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
Will Angelic Light break-through for a maiden victory at the highest level of racing in the 2014 Winterbottom Stakes, or will one of her classy rivals find the line in the clear?
Angelic Light ($3)
Spending over a year in the paddock nursing a tendon injury, Angelic Light has arguably returned to the track in career-best form this time in and appears primed for a maiden Group 1 victory in the 2014 Winterbottom Stakes. Running a credible third in the Listed Carlyon Stakes (1000m) first-up on August 23rd, the Holy Roman Emperor mare secured a memorable victory over the world’s leading sprinter Lankan Rupee in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) on September 6th before placing a competitive fourth in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1200m) on September 26th. Running an agonizingly close second in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) last time out on October 24th, Angelic Light has been confirmed to be partnered by champion jockey Damien Oliver in the Winterbottom Stakes and will leave from the ideal barrier 5.
Moment Of Change ($4.20)
Having secured two Group 1 victories in 2014 already, Moment Of Change is likely to receive the run of the race from barrier 4 in the 2014 Winterbottom Stakes and is more than worth consideration for a bet at current odds. A standout performer for trainer Peter Moody over the 2013 Spring Carnival, Moment Of Change placed fourth in both the Moir Stakes and Manikato Stakes and third in the Group 1 VRC Sprint Classic (1200m) before running a close second to Buffering in the Winterbottom. Progressing to impressive back-to-back victories in the Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) in early autumn, the Barely A Moment gelding has steadily built to the task this time in; finishing fifth amongst a particularly classy field in the Darley Classic last time out.
Bel Sprinter ($12)
A Group 1 winner having taken out the 2013 edition of The Galaxy (1100m), Bel Sprinter has returned to racing in competitive form this season and appears on track for a competitive performance in the 2014 Winterbottom Stakes. Progressing to a credible third behind Black Caviar in the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) and second in the Group 1 International Sprint (1200m) in Singapore following his Galaxy triumph, the Bel Esprit gelding was unable to make much of an impact over autumn this year, but won the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1100m) first-up this time before placing a luckless sixth in the Group 2 Salinger Stakes (1200m) last time out.
