Claiming eight race wins and a further eleven minor places from his 31 competitive appearances on course so far, Watermans Bay began his racing career under the guidance of trainers Peter and Matthew Giadresco in 2011; transferring to the East Coast for just three starts in spring before returning to his native Perth.

Allocated the central barrier 7 for the 2014 Winterbottom Stakes, Monton has been thrilled with the form displayed and work completed by the Eternity Range gelding since arriving in his care last week, and is confident his performance for third in the 2013 edition of the Winterbottom Stakes will count for a lot on Saturday.

“He only got here on Friday, but he’s done well,” Morton told Perth Racing.

“He hasn’t left an oat.

“I’ve ridden him a couple of times and he gives me a good feel.

“He ran third in the race last year and if he’s somewhere near his top, he’ll be a nice horse to have going into the race.”

A standout performer in the west over the summer of 2013/14 and autumn of this year, Watermans Bay ran fifth in each of the Listed Birthday Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Prince Of Wales Stakes (1200m) first-up before placing third in the Group 3 Reeves Stakes (1100m) in his only other start prior to the Winterbottom.

Progressing to fourth in both the Listed W.A.T.C Stakes (1100m) and Listed Miss Andretti Stakes (1200m) in January, Watermans Bay ran second in the Listed Cyril Flower Stakes (1200m) on February 8th and returned to the winner’s circle in the Listed Pinjarra Classic (1300m); returning to the paddock after placing second in the Listed Bunbury Stakes (1400m) on March 9th.

Required to carry 58.5kgs, Watermans Bay is currently available at a quote of $41 for success in the 2014 Winterbottom Stakes, or $9.80 to figure in the places with Ladbrokes.com.au.
