A leading chance for success having already secured two impressive Group 1 victories in 2014, classy gelding Moment Of Change’s chances of success in the 2014 Winterbottom Stakes took a huge boost on Tuesday evening when allocated the ideal barrier 4.

Securing an impressive record of seven wins and a further ten minor places from just 26 competitive starts so far, Moment Of Change was a notable performer in major sprinting events over the 2013 Spring Carnival; finishing fourth in each of the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1200m) and Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) and third in the Group 1 VRC Sprint Classic (1200m) before a trip to Perth for last year’s edition of the Winterbottom Stakes delivered an agonisingly-close second to Buffering.

Continuing to work through summer, the son of Barely A Moment ran second in the Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m) before securing impressive back-to-back victories in the Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) in February.

While yet to find the line in the clear over four starts this time in, Moment Of Chance placed a credible fifth amongst particularly classy competition in the Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m) last time out and appears primed for a return to the winner’s circle on Saturday.

Returning to racing in exceptional form this season following a year in the paddock with a tendon injury, Angelic Light has been confirmed to be partnered by champion jockey Damien Oliver in the Winterbottom Stakes and is likely to receive the run of the race from the ideal barrier 5.

Contesting five race wins and a further six minor places over her 15 competitive starts so far, the Holy Roman Emperor mare ran third in the Listed Carlyon Stakes (1000m) first-up this season before pulling off an incredible upset when beating the world’s leading sprinter Lankan Rupee to the line in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m).

Having since placed fourth in the Moir Stakes and a close second in the Manikato Stakes, trainer Robbie Griffiths has been thrilled with Angelic Light’s form in the lead-up to the Winterbottom Stakes and is confident of a successful performance.

Revealing he was hoping for a wide draw for the Group 1 winner earlier this week, trainer Jason Warren has drawn barrier 8 in the 2014 Winterbottom Stakes for Bel Sprinter.

A standout performer over the 2013 Autumn Carnival, Bel Sprinter charged home to take out the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) first-up before placing third behind Black Caviar in the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m); returning to the paddock after a trip to Singapore delivered a close second place finish in the Group 1 International Sprint (1200m).

Displaying a distinct disdain for loading into the barriers over an unsuccessful autumn prep this year, Warren is confident loading into the gates late is key in a successful run for Bel Sprinter.

Classy local sprinter Tiger Pete has been allocated the rails draw, while Rock Magic has been charged with overcoming the wide and somewhat awkward barrier 13.
