Ortensia finally earned her first Group 1 win in the $500,000 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot last Saturday November 19, 2011.
The six-year-old mare won the Group 1 The Galaxy last year only to have her title stripped from her after producing a positive swab after the race.
Jockey Craig Williams was aboard Ortensia for her 2011 Winterbottom Stakes win.
“To win a Group One win on this mare is great,” Williams said.
“She deserved to have it. She had one and she lost it.
“She was awesome today. I have such a great relationship with her. I trust her and she was really good.”
Majority owner Alister Fraser was overcome with joy after the race.
“I’m overwhelmed,” Fraser said.
“I semi-retired her but I thought there was still something left.
“I wanted her to go out on top. I thought she deserved to go out a winner.”
Ortensia has now won ten of her 29 career starts and has earned more than $1.4 million in prize money.
